The Chicks Are in the House!

Here they are! I must say I'm giddy like a school girl. It's been awhile since we've had baby chickens and boy are they cute! I chose Dominiques and Americanas. The Dominiques because they are great layers and only weigh up to 5 pound therefore keeping the food to egg production down a bit. The Amaricanas because I love blue, greenish blue eggs!

Here's a little Americana

It took me a few days to make their brooder. Due to the fact we have a mini panther (a black cat named Trip) we have to secure it in case the garage door is left open. It's a very easy design I found on the internet.
I have horses so I just so happen to have BIG water troughs. I used them as their enclosure and made a top out of chicken wire and landscaping border. This should keep the cat out in case he should sneak into the garage.

A logo and an update.

The apple trees have really leafed out! The peach trees are slightly behind the apple trees, a few less leaves but little buds. The Pecans are still sleeping! I was worried but I noticed that the fully grown walnut trees at the place where I board my horses are still sleeping too. I think nut trees hibernate longer, I'll go check that out.

 I've been working on a logo for the company, here's the one I created that we like.  

 I still need to take some pictures of the lil trees! I'll try next time I'm up at the ranch.

AND, we will be picking up our 10 chicks for Sierra Vista Organics egg production April 24, 2013. Woo hoo!

4 more weeks till we move to the ranch, I'm so excited.
